Originally from Dorchester, a section of Boston, Massachusetts that was overwhelmingly Irish by birth, or ancestry during the 1950’s and 1960’s, and beyond, she enjoyed a happy childhood among her extended family in their three family tenement, locally called a triple decker. Her Irish immigrant grandmother; Grammy; and adult Uncle Eddie lived on the third floor, her family of five (at the time), lived in the middle, and her married Uncle Jack and Aunt Lois lived on the first floor. She was fed Irish pride along with her oatmeal, together with an unhealthy hatred of the English who had occupied Ireland for centuries and forced much of the Irish migration to the United States through oppressive colonial practices. Learning about the Brehon Laws and the wisdom of the ancient Irish has offered her a richer, deeper appreciation of the Irish past that she wants to share.

Lynn pursued a legal career in the 1970’s to change the world. It turned out to be not so dramatic and glorious as all that. After she graduated from Northeastern Law School in 1980 she took a position with legal services in New Bedford, Massachusetts as a housing attorney. After a couple of years in that position, she was invited to join a private practice with two other former legal services attorneys, and engaged in a general trial practice with them for a few years. After that, she went out on her own and maintained a solo trial practice until she took on a law partner in 2003. She enjoyed that association until her semi-retirement in 2023. Although her practice of law did not change the world as hoped, over the years she used her influence as a lawyer to advocate for social justice in her community, in her profession and in the political arena. She has been a founding director of the local community action agency; PACE; a director of the New Bedford Women’s Center, a director and president of the YWCA of Southeastern Massachusetts, a trustee of the Southcoast Hospitals Group, President of the New Bedford Bar Association, President of the Bristol County Bar Association and member of the Women’s Bar Association.

Lynn was most recently honored as a YWCA Woman of Distinction in 2020 for her dedication to the YWCA principles of the empowerment of women and elimination of racism. She received the Pro Bono Publico award from the Massachusetts Bar Association earlier in her career for her dedication to legal services for the poor. After 43 years of intense trial practice, Lynn semi-retired in 2023 to dedicate herself to her research and writing about the Brehon laws and the wisdom of ancient Ireland.

Lynn has launched the blog, Lady Brehon, to share her enthusiasm for this ancient and advanced legal system, and the wisdom of the old ways, with a larger community. She hopes to engage others in the exploration of this fascinating subject matter.
